Gates Residence

This is a concrete floor in an out building/guest house on the property of a residence in New Baltimore, Michigan. The floor was in really good shape because we were able to get in there before the new drywall went up.

We started by doing color samples in a bathroom where the tub would go. That way, the samples wouldn’t show up on the finished floor. The customer asked to do a mix of two colors on our color charts: nickel, a gray from Artcrete, and Canyon Brown, a medium brown from another company.

The result was a beautiful, subtle tannish gray, which we achieved by spraying on two layers of stain. We then coated with two coats of clear polyurea sealer.

One complicating factor was that the floor was brand new when the customer called us. We apprised the customer that it takes about four months for new floors to dry sufficiently to stain and seal.

When we tested the moisture content of the floor after four months, it was just ready to be worked on, but we had to use a minimum of water in cleaning the floor, and rinsing the stain residue, to avoid going back over the moisture content limits.
