Jaffe Residence
This is an acid-stained concrete floor on the ground level of a one-story ranch home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The concrete was cut into 4-foot-square tiles and stained a reddish brown, called Padre Brown from the LM Scofield Company. The two photos above are the master bedroom after we refurbished these existing floors, with a new coat of sealer, and two coats of floor finish.
Above, here, are two photos showing an adjacent first floor room, an office area, or guest bedroom. Most of the time, you’ll only find residential acid-stained concrete in the basement, but this is a Frank Lloyd Wright-certified home, and in Wright homes, you’ll almost always find it on the ground floor.
Above left is a photo of the main hallway leading to the bedrooms, and above right is the guest bathroom. The acid stain coloring on the floors in this home is near perfect. We can’t claim credit for it, though, as we only came in and refurbished the floors that were done 20 years previously.
The last two photos, above, are of the living room. At left is before cleaning, re-sealing, and refinishing. At right, the floor is finished.
